„What about the I in LGBTIQ+? The importance of Intersex visibility and a supporting community“
There are a lot of questions when it comes to intersex people. A lot of people do not even know, that we exist. Nor about the lack of human rights and the medical violations intersex children, teens face in Europe and elsewhere. Amnesty International recently released their report: FIRST DO NO HARM. So, first of all we need to know: WHAT IS INTERSEX? What does it mean to be intersex? To understand the struggles of 1,7% of the population after all, we will also approach the power of taboo and stigma in society, secrecy in families and trauma. The Workshop aims to give basic knowledge and an overview about the Intersex movement and the current situation. It will be held in English and is open to anyone interested (no previous knowledge needed). As there is no Intersex Association in Slovakia it is also highly recommended to people working in the fields of health care, social work, LGBT-NGOs, pedagogics/education, psychology, sexuality and related therapy or counselling. In the end will be the possibility to discuss, what the Pride Community that stands for equality, respect and integrity can do to really support their youngest member.
